When I saw that Mr. Miller had kindly posted a “complete“ new version of this show, I decided to give it a listen, and I’m sure glad I did. Though its not regarded on the same level as many more well-known shows from May or fall 77, it is nonetheless mighty fine. The first set is fairly unremarkable, save the really nice Music Never Stopped to close it out. The second set, however, is a pure demonstration of raw power and ferocious playing by the band. See,
e.g., the Estimated->Eyes. By the time they break into Not Fade Away the train is speeding so fast it’s hard to believe they not only kept it firmly on track, without careening over a cliff, but ably slowed things down long enough for a beautiful Black Peter which then, itself, gathered pace and rolled back into NFA. It should surprise no one that some thin lines of white powder just may have been involved. Regardless, the result all these years later is just another jolly good time and really fun listen. I must admit I nearly shed a tear when the tape runs out in the screaming UJB encore jam but feel so fortunate for what is here. See for yourself.
